Dear Frei community,
Today we are excited to announce the launch of Freidom’s newest support initiative, Freiunteer, a Frei community volunteer corps.
For many years we have been building community. We gather to socialize, to connect and to share in fun experiences. We meet up to support each other on our journey to living self-determined lives to the fullest.
We have always recognized that community is also about showing up for those who need an extra hand on a particular day; it’s about having each other’s back. Leaving the ultra-Orthodox community poses many challenges, which often includes losing the support of family, friends, and access to chesed programs.
To fill that void, we have created Freiunteer.
What is Freiunteer?
Freiunteer is a volunteer program providing support to members of our community by organizing volunteer assistance to Frei community members in times of dire need (similar to Chaveirim, Bikkur Cholim, etc.). Examples include visiting someone in the hospital, providing moral support by accompanying them to a court hearing, cooking or delivering a hot meal, giving a ride to a hospital for urgent care, etc. Volunteers will be available to be called upon to assist in those situations.
Where will Freiunteer operate?
Freiunteer will operate in any city where volunteers sign up, primarily in North America.
When will Freiunteer be operational?
As each regional hub is established, we will announce the volunteer services offered in that region and guidance on how to request assistance.
Do I need to own a vehicle or have prior experience to be a Freiunteer?
No, you do not need a car or prior volunteer experience. There are many volunteer opportunities which do not require a vehicle or where rides are available. We will make sure that all volunteers feel empowered and competent at their specific volunteer tasks.
